- Is Best a public, private or international school?
Best is a private bilingual school offering K-12 education to mostly local students. We comply with the national education standards, but fused with international courses to varying degrees.
- Can I teach without knowing the local language?
Our school has no language requirement at all. We believe that the best way for our students to learn English is to immerse them in an environment that helps them think and communicate in English. We prefer our teachers to teach the course without relying on the local language.
- What grade level will I be teaching?
Our recruitment team is always upfront with prospective teachers. They consider not only filling in available positions but also taking into account teachers' credentials, backgrounds, skills, and experience before they make the final placement.
- What is the class size?
A maximum class size of 20 for our kindergarten with 2-3 support staff inside the classroom. In elementary, middle, and high schools, the standard number of students ranges from 25-30. Teachers in elementary will work closely with a local teaching assistant.
- What qualifications and experience do I need?
This varies depending on position – if you are seeking to teach at our junior and senior high school, a specialist subject degree is required. As a general rule you will need to have relevant qualifications and a minimum of 24-months experience working with students in a regular classroom setting.
- How do I apply for a work (Z) visa?
You need to apply for a Z-class visa at the nearest Chinese embassy in your country. The following documents must be obtained and submitted: visa application form, valid passport, work permit notice (provided by our school), and other relevant documents (please check the Chinese embassy for additional information).
- What documents do I need to apply for a work permit notice?
To apply for a work permit notice, a scanned copy of your documents should be prepared and sent. You will need a current passport with at least 12-months validity, employment contract, authenticated/legalized degree and background check by the Chinese consulate in your country, medical exam, reference letters, and other teaching certificates such TEFL or TESOL.
- How long will it take to process the work permit notice?
Processing times vary. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks to obtain the work permit notice from the local labor bureau.
- Will my compensation be enough to live on?
The cost of living in Zhengzhou is relatively low compared to the first-tier cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou and Shenzhen. Your income from teaching will be just enough for you to live comfortably.
- Is housing provided?
Yes. Temporary housing is provided to our foreign staff, so you do not have to worry about your stay. Before your arrival, on-campus accommodation will be arranged by our staff. We provide a private room equipped with a desk, bed, closet space, and air conditioning. If you choose to live off-campus for the remaining duration of your contract, a housing subsidy will be provided. You will need to locate and rent an apartment – our staff will provide assistance and give you plenty of advice to accomplish this.
- Is it safe to work and stay in Zhengzhou?
Here at BEST, we get all our employees to commit to workplace safety. We provide 24/7 emergency support from our local staff. Our foreign teachers are enrolled in medical and health insurance, which covers unforeseen and unexpected accidents and illnesses; it does not cover preventive care or routine maintenance medications.
- How is the weather in Zhengzhou?
Zhengzhou is located in the middle and lower streams of the Yellow River. It has four distinct seasons – dry and cold winter, hot and humid summer and short spring and autumn. The climate in July is the hottest; there is abundant rainfall during summer. Winter in Zhengzhou is long and cold though seldom snowy.
